What is the difference between an interior designer and a contractor?

An interior designer plans the space: layout, materials, lighting and how the room will look and work, usually shown in drawings and 3D renderings. A contractor builds it: demolition, plumbing, electrical, cabinets, tile and permits. In Nevada, construction requires a licensed contractor. A designer's package is what the contractor prices and builds from.

Yes. That is exactly how it works. The design package gives your licensed contractor measured layouts, every material and fixture selection, a lighting plan and 3D renderings, so they can price and build the room as designed. You can send it to several contractors for comparable bids. We do not build, so you choose the contractor.

Not legally, but it usually pays off when the layout, look or budget is still open. A finished design lets several licensed Nevada contractors bid on the same plan, so quotes are comparable and change orders drop. If you are replacing like for like, a contractor can often price it directly. Nevada does require a licensed contractor for construction.

When to design first

When a contractor first is fine

Same layout, similar finishes, a straightforward swap. A licensed contractor can often price that directly from a site visit.

Whichever order you choose, Nevada requires a licensed contractor for construction work, and you can check any license at the Nevada State Contractors Board. Our packages are written so any licensed contractor can price and build from them.
